Chicago indie rock band Love In October breaks its two-year music hiatus with the release of its edgy and energized new single, "Alone." Comprised of siblings Erik and Kent Widman, the duo last graced the indie scene with Shapes, their stunning 2019 full-length album that generated a number of solid, standout singles including "Surf Rock City," "Time Cop," "Stuck" and "I Don't Want to Die Tonight."
New single "Alone" features Love in October's signature sound that blends lo-fi fuzzy guitars, pop hooks and edgy vocals to create a fresh, electric sonic vibe in the style of Pixies meets The Cars. With its lyrical theme rooted in the pandemic, Love in October's Erik Widman remarks on the song's origins. "'Alone' is a a song about the despair we are all feeling in the Covid-19 era, missing our friends, struggling with the lack of human connection. Now we sit and wait by the phone, longing to hear a familiar voice, wondering when the world will be normal once again." He adds, "Capturing these challenging times, the band looks forward to the horizon for better days ahead."
"Damn, I'm stuck here in my bed
Wishing you would call
I'm missing my old friends"
As we await more new music from the band, "Alone" might just be the winter recharge and interim dose of energy you need to make you feel better in these strange times.
