Magnetic Skies | Dreams and Memories (debut EP)
UK synth duo Magnetic Skies recently released their stunning debut EP, Dreams and Memories, featuring their modern blend of cutting-edge pop, electronic soundscapes and soaring melodies, with a nostalgic nod to the cinematic sounds of 80's alternative music. The duo has garnered significant attention since the EP release, having been described as echoes of Tears for Fears and Japan meeting the modern world of Chvrches and Empire of the Sun. Magnetic Skies was formed in early

Charlie Cunningham | New singles from London indie singer-songwriter
Since I recently discovered the music of London-based indie singer-songwriter Charlie Cunningham, I've found myself regularly listening to most of his musical back catalog over the past week. This is some truly impressive and stunning songwriting, performance and vocal delivery - I wonder how I hadn't encountered his music sooner. New singles "Sink In" and "Permanent Way", produced by Sam Scott and Duncan Tootill, are presumably preludes to a forthcoming album or EP release.

Piroshka | Everlastingly Yours (new single and video)
What do you get when you take one member each from four groundbreaking and influential indie bands of the Nineties? You get Piroshka - the superb new indie supergroup comprised of Miki Berenyi (Lush), KJ 'Moose' McKillop (Moose), Mick Conroy (Modern English) and Justin Welch (Elastica). The name "Piroshka" is Hungarian for Little Red Riding Hood and also gives a subtle nod to a certain band member's red hairdo that was prominent in the 1990's Britpop scene. The band's debut s

Fenne Lily | On Hold (debut album)
Bristol-based indie singer-songwriter Fenne Lily's debut album, On Hold, is one of those gorgeous, rare musical masterpieces that I could seriously listen to for hours on end. A thing of genuine musical beauty, the ten delicate and personal stories on this album speak directly to your soul and lightly tug at your heart strings. At the forefront, you'll immediately discover unpretentious and genuine songwriting adorned with Fenne's soft, smoky and velvety vocals and outstandin

Anna Pancaldi | Peace (new single)
Earlier this Summer, UK-based indie musician Anna Pancaldi opened a new musical chapter with the release "What I've Become", showcasing her debut on electric guitar. A few pages later in this exciting musical journey comes a bold and surprising next step in Anna's musical evolution - new single "Peace". From the very first notes, you'll realize you're about to hear something that's a full 180 from the heartfelt, piano-driven anthems you might most immediately associate with A

Anna Pancaldi | What I've Become (new single and video)
UK indie singer-songwriter Anna Pancaldi is no stranger to the pages of SoundThread Music Blog. We've fallen in love with and blogged about her most recent stunning EP's (Dear Joey, and Sweet Charity). Her signature songwriting and captivating vocal delivery have been at the core of her acoustic-based music and have carved out a well-earned space for her in the indie music scene. With Sweet Charity, fans were treated to Anna's elegant mastering of the piano on tracks like the

Alabaster | Modern World (debut single)
Hailing from Bristol, UK, atmospheric indie rock outfit Alabaster marks their official entry into the indie scene with their impressive debut single, "Modern World." With musical influences ranging from Brian Jonestown Massacre to the likes of Jeff Buckley and David Bowie, the band delivers a solid, atmospheric, guitar-driven soundscape on their debut single, paired with haunting vocals over prominent, pounding drums. Like a ticking clock, the striking rhythmic intro to "Mode

Morning Myth | New singles (Murmur, Blurred Lines & Mysteries)
Morning Myth is the new collaborative music project of guitarist Ross King and singer Aimee Herbert-Smith (a.k.a. Mere Child). According to the band's website, it was a mutual admiration for Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, John Martyn, and Fleetwood Mac that brought this UK duo together at the start of 2018. Delivering a soothing, ethereal blend of acoustic dream/indie-pop, Morning Myth has already released two stunning singles ("Murmur" and "Blurred Lines & Mysteries") in their sho

Bryde | Desire (new single and video)
Rugged, tough and ... well, "sticky" are the adjectives that pop into my head as I watch the sizzling new music video for "Desire" from London-based, indie singer-songwriter Bryde (aka Sarah Howells). The track is the first new material from Bryde since the release of her single "Less" earlier this Spring. "Desire" is one of Bryde's strongest tracks to date, with Sarah's talented songwriting and stellar vocals boldly beaming through - a track that is lyrically demanding and u

Mere Child | Better (acoustic version)
Nearly one year ago, Brighton-based singer-songwriter Mere Child (a.k.a. Aimee Herbert-Smith) released her stunning debut single "Not Good Enough." Last week, on her Facebook page, Mere Child graced us with a gorgeous acoustic version of a new song called "Better." Having just written down these two song titles, I must note that neither literal title (i.e., "not good enough", "better") gives proper justice to the brilliant songwriting and captivating performance that Mere Chi

The legendary band Wire release their 15th studio album 'Silver/Lead'
My entry into the world of Wire started back in 1987 when I first heard and saw their music video for "Ahead", a single taken from their album The Ideal Copy. At the time, I didn’t realize I was listening to the second incarnation of Wire - the first having ended after releasing their Document and Eyewitness live album, and band members taking a hiatus for a few years. I also didn’t realize then what an influential and groundbreaking band they were as part of the late 70’s pu
