ENTRANCE (a.k.a. Guy Blakeslee) | New single, protest ballad and forthcoming album

February 12, 2017

In advance of the release of his forthcoming album ("Book of Changes"), Los Angeles-based musician ENTRANCE (a.k.a. Guy Blakeslee) unveils his first single, the outstanding "Always the Right Time". The music of ENTRANCE has elements of psychedelic folk, indie rock and alt country, with a style that is reminiscent of such musical greats the likes of Townes van Zandt and Gene Clark.

"Always the Right Time" presents an upbeat, melodic and catchy tune with Guy's strong, soulful and genuine voice delivering charming, authentic lyrics like "Every time I see you, I fall in love" and "There's always a right time for love". On this particular track, I think the vocal style and feel are reminiscent of the late, great Roy Orbison, and the strings throughout the track add a beautiful touch to the overall atmosphere that the song creates.

"Book of Changes" will be released by Thrill Jockey Records on February 24, followed by a month-long tour throughout the US, Canada, UK and Europe in April.

But wait, there's more!

In addition to ENTRANCE's upcoming album, he recently wrote and contributed an especially noteworthy and highly relevant protest anthem, "Not Gonna Say Your Name". The song is also featured on the "Our First 100 Days" project. Running at just under four minutes, this a cappella ballad is full of melody and harmony, with straightforward, well-written lyrics that inspire resistance, courage, and a demand for truth and love: "I hear the forces of hate | they're getting louder each day | we're all looking for someone to blame | but I'll keep on singing for love anyway | and I'm not gonna say your name".

I honestly don't think it's going to be too long before we all see ENTRANCE performing this little anthem on an upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live! (Is anyone from NBC or SNL reading this??) In the meantime, have a listen to "Not Gonna Say Your Name" below, and check out the official video for the song on YouTube.

All profits raised from the "Our First 100 Days" project go directly to organizations working on the front lines of climate, women's rights, immigration and fairness. In particular, ENTRANCE notes that the proceeds from the sale of "Not Gonna Say Your Name" from his Bandcamp page will go directly to Planned Parenthood.
