Looking for some motivational, feel-good, foot-stomping music to put you in a good mood? Then no need to look any further than the uplifting, infectious new anthem - "It's A Beautiful Day" - from Denver-based indie folk rock artist Rob Drabkin. With driving rhythms, soaring vocals and positive message, this track bursts into life with its melodic, sing-along, raucous chorus. I was immediately taken by "It's A Beautiful Day" on my first listen.
Rob's musical talents make it easy to believe he’s always been a full-time musician. But what's surprising and impressive is the fact that his musical calling is the result of a recent 180-degree career change. Rob graduated with a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Trinity University (San Antonio, TX) with the intention of becoming a doctor. His focus quickly changed after a family trip to New York. "My Dad played Jazz full time for 30 years before he got into medicine. On that trip, we re-connected with his old musician friends, and it was inspiring to see them giving their lives to music night after night for so many years. That was the night I dropped science and dedicated myself to music. After that moment, I spent every possible minute singing and honing all of the songwriting skills that I could." He adds, "It's kind of embarrassing to admit, but I had an epiphany while watching the Broadway musical Chicago. I decided right then and there that I didn't want to work in a research lab for the rest of my life and that I wanted to pursue music full time even though I had never sung a note up to that point." He took to Denver's music scene quickly, and set his career into motion.
"It's A Beautiful Day" is taken from Rob's outstanding debut album, Beautiful Day. If you have fallen in love with "It's A Beautiful Day," then you'll definitely want to check out the album for some equally-as-impressive tracks, including standouts "Love We Gain" and "Love Ends, Fear Begins."
The inspirational, cinematic music video for "It's A Beautiful Day", filmed in Georgetown, Colorado, reinforces the song's lyrical theme, and is all about good karma and paying it forward. In Rob's words, "I hope this video inspires each of us to love more and judge less... What comes around goes around in our karma circle video." The music video was directed by Dillon Novak, with concept and production by Adam Raynes.
